Our Projects & Coaltions
Our projects integrate vision with action. From advocacy at the EU level to local food circles, new markets, and agro-ecological parks, we work across scales to build a food system that is sustainable, just, and rooted in community. Explore our coalitions below
EU Urban Food Transformation Programme
FoodClic is a program funded by the European Union that connects people, policy programs, and
various sectors for an integrated approach to the transformation of urban food environments and
food systems. It runs from 2022 to 2027.
The Food Council MRA has helped roll out the projects and interventions with its contacts and knowledge. Through the Food Council MRA, FoodClic has
established networks for the distribution of affordable food and waste prevention in Amsterdam
North and Amsterdam Southeast. https://foodclic.eu/

Connecting Citizen Food Initiatives
The Food Council MRA is a co-founder of the Voedsel Verbindt Foundation (2018). The Food Council MRA is represented on the Foundation's steering committee. She represents the interests of citizen initiatives there.
Voedsel Verbindt and Food Council MRA coordinate their activities and collaborate to promote healthy and sustainable local food in the Amsterdam metropolitan region. https://voedselverbindt.nl/

Supporting Amsterdam Urban Farms
Promoting the sustainable production of fresh, healthy, and affordable food from close by, in the city and the immediate surroundings, is one of the goals of the Food Council MRA.
The establishment in 2022 and the functioning of a partnership of gardens and farms pursuing this goal have been made possible in part by the Food Council MRA.

Just and Sustainable Food Systems
The Food Council MRA provides knowledge and resources to the national organization Food
Otherwise. Food Otherwise is an organization that strives for a just and sustainable food system. The
organization is active in the Netherlands and Flanders. It has five key focus areas: 1. agroecology, 2.
Regional food systems, 3. eating differently, 4. Fair prices for farmers, 5. Equal access to natural
resources. The Food Council MRA organizes events for Food Otherwise, such as the Food Film
Festival. https://www.voedselanders.nl/netwerk/

Regional Food Platform Network
The Food Council MRA is a co-founder of the website and network council of Van Amsterdamse
Bodem. This is a platform for food initiatives from the Amsterdam metropolitan region. The platform was established in 2017 through a collaboration between the Municipality of Amsterdam, De Gezonde Stad, Food Council MRA, Pakhuis
de Zwijger, Eetbaar Amsterdam, AMS, Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, and Natuurhub

The Food Council MRA maintains close contact with administrators and the civil service organization of the Municipality of Amsterdam. For instance, they collaborate in the project group of the FoodClic program and in working groups for the revision of the municipality's food vision and food strategy. https://www.amsterdam.nl/bestuur-organisatie/beleid/voedselstrategie/

Green Projects Advisory Platform
Food Council MRA participates in Groenpunt 020 and advises on food-related green projects and
events. Groenpunt020 is a platform in the Hugo de Vries building at the Hortus Botanicus where
green organizations from across the city come together and where city residents can go with
questions about greenery, biodiversity, and gardening.

Food Council MRA supports the organization Voedselcircel Amsterdam with advice and practical
assistance. De Voedselcirkel connects organizations in Amsterdam that collect food surpluses from supermarkets, import companies, and restaurants before the expiration date and delivers them to chefs and distribution centers, where the food is made available to people on a tight budget. https://www.voedselcirkelamsterdam.nl/
